Purpose of the Course
This
course is conducted in a hands-on workshop environment with many
working examples and constructive labs. Students will learn Windows
based development using Access 2000, relational database development
techniques, developing advanced, optimized multi-user systems, transaction
processing using both the Access database and server type databases.

This
two module program provides a comprehensive set of skills for developing
Windows based database applications using Access 2000.
In addition to gaining knowledge in Access 2000 students will have
an excellent background in Microsoft Windows programming and programming
in the new object / component based paradigm.
This
is a practical course that provides the skills and knowledge to
fully exploit the features and capabilities of the Access 2000 environment
including tips and secrets from experienced developers.
Particular
emphasis is placed on VBA "Visual Basic for Applications"
language, which is becoming a standard for all Microsoft products,
and detailed coverage of the Access 2000 "Data Access Objects".
All relevant relational database issues including Client Server
development are covered.

will learn how to:

Develop Windows database
applications quickly and effectively using Microsoft design techniques

Use ActiveX Automation
and Access 2000 to integrate Windows applications

Effectively use the Data
Access Objects (DAO)

Design and develop in an
Object Based Programming Environment

Extend the use of Access
2000 using sophisticated OCX controls

Develop multi-user applications
including record locking, security, transaction processing and
Client / Server development and network performance issues

Individuals
looking for an upgrade path from older technologies and those looking
to extend their knowledge to the area of Windows based
development. Individuals requiring in-depth knowledge of relational
database applications and Access 2000. User level familiarity with
Access or another relational database product is a prerequisite.
Familiarity with using Windows is also assumed.
